Chisholm Trail gymnastics competed in the Texas State Championships in College Station at A&M Consolidated High School on April 28-29. The Rangers finished in the Top 5 of the State for the third year in a row. The boys team placed fifth overall and had at least one athlete in the Top 10 on every event and set a school record with a total of eight medals. Senior Paul Herrera led the Rangers with an eighth place finish in the All-Around competition. Herrera also finished third on floor, fourth on vault, fifth on rings, and sixth on high bar. He now holds the mark for the most decorated state medalist in CTHS gymnastics history. Senior Zachary Phillips finished ninth on the parallel bars and 10th in the All-Around. Senior Zak Travis finished sixth on pommel horse. All three seniors were also selected to represent Team Texas at the Senior National meet in June.
Kylie Miertschin competed at in the All-Around for the second consecutive year. Miertschin scored a 9.5 on her optional vault for a personal record finishing 27th out of 76 competitors. She scored a 9.525 on her optional beam routine finishing 26th out of 76 athletes. Her All-Around optional total of 36.275 beat her personal record by over two points to finish 30th out of 50 All-Around athletes.
