Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District is proud to announce, David Norris, as the new Head Girls Basketball coach at Chisholm Trail High School.
Coach Norris has over 36 years of experience as a teacher, coach and administrator. He began his coaching career at Columbia High School in West Columbia, TX in 1986. Other high school coaching stops included Brenham, Leakey, San Marcos and Dripping Springs. He has over 400 wins as a boys and girls head basketball coach along with numerous district titles and playoff appearances. Coach Norris has earned District Coach of the Year three times. During his time at Dripping Springs, the girls basketball team was a 5A Regional Quarterfinalist. For the past year, Norris has served as the varsity girls assistant basketball coach at Boswell. The Lady Pioneers finished second in district and advanced to the playoffs.
Coach Norris was a collegiate head coach as well. He was the men’s and women’s assistant basketball coach at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. The men’s team qualified for the NAIA National Tournament while the women’s team finished runner-up in the NAIA National Tournament in 1998. He was also the head men’s coach at Schreiner University earning an NAIA playoff appearance and receiving ASC Conference Coach of the Year honors.
“Coach Norris has an abundance of coaching experience, both at the high school and collegiate level. He has been successful throughout his career both in the classroom and on basketball courts,” said EMS Athletic Director Brent Barker. “He will be a great asset to Chisholm Trail High School.”
Coach Norris earned his bachelor’s degree at Southwest Texas State University and his master’s degree in Education Administration from Lamar University. Besides being a coach and teacher he has also served as an assistant principal at Hays High School for five years and was the administrator of alternative education from 2020-2022 in Dripping Springs. David and his wife Rebecca have four kids: Kayla, David Jr., Jasmine and Isabella.
“I would like to thank EMS ISD Athletics along with the Chisholm Trail administration for giving me this opportunity to lead the girls basketball program at Chisholm Trail,” said Norris. “I am excited and ready to make a positive impact not only within the program but on the campus as well.”
